CLAREMONT, CA. – The 2019 season got off to a rocking start for the No. 8 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis Team on Thursday night as the Sagehens defeated SCIAC opponent Occidental College 9-0. The Sagehens dominated for majority of the match, as none of the players surrendered more than two set points per match.
In the doubles, No. 1 pair Arianna Chen and Lucy Jiang won first over Jane Wright and Katie Wolber with an 8-0 sweep. Rebecca Salaway and Jacinta Chen followed in No. 3 doubles with an 8-1 victory over Sydney Leiweke and Nicole Pelletier. No. 2 Caroline Casper and Yurie Heard completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 victory against Andrea Dawsonn and Alana Adelman.
Over in the singles competition, first year Melisha Dogra earned her first SCIAC victory in no. 5 singles with a 6-1 and 6-0 win over Adelman. Salaway followed with a 6-0 and 6-1 win in no. 6 singles over Leiweke, and later Jiang took down Pelletier in no. 4 with the scores of 6-0 and 6-1. First year Maria Lyven also earned her first victory with a 6-0 and 6-1 win in no. 2 singles over Wright, and Casper concluded the night with a 6-2 and 6-0 domination in no. 1 singles against Wolber.
