PASADENA, CA. – The No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis Team continued to their undefeated run in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, defeating Caltech 8-1 on Saturday afternoon. After commanding through all three doubles matches, the Hens dominated in singles with five more victories to cap it off.
Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to a 9-5 record overall and 3-0 in the SCIAC.
Jacinta Chen and Summer Garrison got the team off to a right start with an 8-1 victory in no. 3 doubles over Vinci Chen and Ankita Roychoudhury. Maryann Zhao and Arianna Chen followed with an 8-3 victory over Sarina Liu and Kana Moriyama in no. 1 doubles. Emily Chen and Shivani Doraiswami closed out the doubles round with a tight 9-7 victory over Julia Reisler and Angelica Zhou in no. 3 doubles.
Doraiswami was the first to finish her singles match, taking a 6-0 win in the first set in no. 3 singles before her opponent forfeited the match via retirement. Caroline Casper followed with a pair of 6-1 set wins in no. 2 over Reisler to clinch the match for the Hens. Zhao maintained her string of strong performances at the no. 1 singles, taking down Moriyama 6-2 and 6-0, and Emily Chen won no. 4 over Liu 6-4 and 6-3. Arianna Chen won no. 5 singles over Roychoudhury with a pair of 6-1 sets. However, Jacinta Chen ran into some trouble in her no. 6 match with Sarah Cai, dropping the first set 7-5 before bouncing back 6-1. In the final tiebreaker, Cai edged out Chen 14-12 to close out the afternoon.
