Women's Tennis: Sagehens Open SCIAC Play With 9-0 Win Over Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Cal Lutheran 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 7-3 overall and open up SCIAC play with a win to move to 1-0.

The Sagehens swept the Regals in both singles and doubles competition and this marks the first time they have defeated a team 9-0 this season. 

Pomona-Pitzer started off the day with a win at the No. 3 doubles spot with Olivia Mendoza and Alexandra Ferry picking up an 8-1 win followed by a win at No. 2 doubles with the team of Maryann Zhao and Summer Garrison taking an 8-5 win.

The Sagehens saw some good competition at the No. 1 doubles match as Arianna Chen and Shivani Doraiswami took their match into a tiebreaker where they ultimately came out on top 8-7 (3).

After starting off with a perfect 3-0 in doubles, the Sagehens carried that momentum into singles play.  Mendoza tallied her second win of the afternoon at No. 6 singles without dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0.

Caroline Casper followed up with a win at No. 1 singles by the score of 6-0, 6-2 and Arianna Chen also won in straight sets at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Garrison took care of her match at No. 2 singles as she defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-2 while Jacinta Chen won her match at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-1 and Doraiswami ended the day for the Sagehens with a win at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-1.
