CLAREMONT, CA. – The No.6 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis program were in high spirits on Tuesday afternoon, breaking out with a lopsided 8-1 victory over No. 5 Bowdoin. The Sagehens cruised through doubles, sweeping all three matches, and later controlled the singles portion by winning all but one match.
Season Impact: The victory bolsters the Sagehens' record to 5-1, as the Hens have defeat four top-15 teams in their last five matches.
Maryann Zhao and Emily Chen had little trouble in no. 2 doubles as they cleaned out their opponents 8-0. The same went for Jacinta Chen and Shivani Doraiswami as they too won their match 8-0. Over in no. 1 doubles, Caroline Casper and Arianna Chen were tested by Tess Trinka and Izzy Essi, but they prevailed with a close 8-6 win to take a 3-0 lead.
Over in singles, Zhao earned a pair of 6-3 set wins to win no. 1 single while Caroline Casper grinded out a 7-5 and 6-3 win in no. 2 single. Summer Garrison had little trouble in no. 3, winning her match 6-1 and 6-0 and Arianna Chen took down Sasa Jovanovic in no. 6 single 6-2 and 6-3. Emily Chen battled it out in three sets, taking down Viv Daniel in no. 5 (6-4, 4-6, 10-4. Bowdoin's Izzy Essi took down Doraiswami with a pair of 6-1 sets to salvage their only point.
