Women's Tennis: No. 5 Sagehens Fall To No. 3 Williams, 6-3

CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team fell to No. 3 Williams College 6-3 on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 10-5 overall and Williams improves to 7-3 overall.

The Sagehens fell behind in doubles play as the Ephs took two out of the first three doubles matches to begin the day.

The only win of doubles for the Sagehens came in the first match at the No. 2 doubles as the team of Caroline Casper and Arianna Chen defeated the team of Bush and Gancayco 8-1.

The Sagehens then dropped doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3 spots as Emily Chen and Maryann Zhao fell to Atkinson and Henderson 9-8 (3) and Grace Hruska and Joy Kim fell 8-3.

Pomona-Pitzer went on to win two of the six singles matches as well. The first of which came at the No. 1 singles where Casper won the first set 6-4 but dropped set two 6-7 (5) and came back to win the third 10-6. Zhao also won her singles match at the No. 2 spot as she defeated Myong, 7-5, 6-1.

Williams went on to win the rest of the singles matches as they earned a win at the No. 4 match as Mae Coyiuto fell to Shin 6-0, 6-2 and the Ephs took a win at No. 5 as Kim fell 6-2, 6-3 to Cancio.

Emily Chen went on to lose her singles match in the No. 6 spot to Atkinson 6-2, 6-2 and Arianna Chen lost a battle in the No. 3 spot as Chen won the first set 6-2 but lost the second 6-4 and went on to lose the third 15-13.
