Women's Tennis: No. 6 Sagehens Dominant Against No. 19 Redlands

CLAREMONT, CA – The No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team scored an easy road victory against the No. 19 Redlands Bulldogs Friday afternoon.

Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in SCIAC play.

The Bulldogs drop to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.


The Sagehens were dominant in doubles play. In the No. 1 match, Emily Chen and Maryann Zhao beat Sarah Ikioka and Elizabeth Johnson 8-5.

Pomona-Pitzer won 8-2 in both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. Arianna Chen and Caroline Casper beat Emily Murnin and Jackie Lacy in the No. 2 slot, and Grace Hruska and Yurie Heard bested Kate Dolan and Claire Bohoskey in the No. 3 match.


Casper led the Sagehens in singles play, winning her match in the No. 1 spot 6-0, 6-5. Zhao was extremely impressive in her match, winning without dropping a set 6-0, 6-0.

In the No. 3 match, Mae Coyiuto won 6-4, 6-1, and Arianna Chen beat Dolan 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot. 

Hruska made quick work of Madison Ross, winning 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 5 slot. Heard made it a clean sweep for the Sagehens, beating Lacy 6-3, 7-5.

Next Match: The Sagehens will participate next at the ITA National Indoor Championships beginning on Friday, March 3.
