CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Swim and Dive team had a strong showing in their pentathlon against University of La Verne. The Sagehens demonstrated their programs' depth, taking first place in every even they competed in.
First year Kate Denend opened up the women's competition with a first place victory in the 100 yard freestyle, completing her race at 54.62. Junior standout Madison Kauahi took second at 55.81 while sophomore Sabrina Kwan took third at 55.90. Kauahi followed up by taking the top spot in the next event, the 100 butterfly, finishing at 1:00.22 while Kayla Yip of La Verne took second at 1:01.15. Sophomore Victoria Agostini took third at 1:02.17.
Junior Angela Ling won the 100 backstroke at 58.86, crossing more than a second ahead of Mary Hanna of La Verne. Agostini followed in third at 1:02.24. Kauahi finished in first place at the following event, the 100 breaststroke, crossing at 1:13.05. Kwan took third in the same event at 1:14.52. At the final event, Kauahi completed her hat trick of victories, taking first at 1:01.82, less than two seconds ahead of La Verne's Hanna. Kwan took third in the final event at 1:03.58.
Up Next: The Sagehens will travel to Los Angeles on Saturday, November 11 to take on Occidental College at 10:30 a.m.
