THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Cal Lutheran 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Rolland Stadium.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 10-3-2 overall and 7-3-2 in SCIAC play. The Sagehens have now split with the Regals on the year with Pomona-Pitzer winning the first meeting 2-0 at home. The Sagehens currently sit in third place in the SCIAC standings with a week remaining in the regular season.
Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer were involved in a defensive battle for today's game. A similar amount of shots was taken by each team with Cal Lutheran slightly outshooting the Sagehens 14-11. Goalkeeper junior Isa Berardo tallied six saves in the loss while the Regals' keeper notched five saves.
Neither teams' offense scored a goal in today's match but the deciding factor was an own goal by the Sagehens in the 75th minute that gave Cal Lutheran a 1-0 advantage. The Sagehens had two more shots to try and tie the game back up but goals were at a premium as Cal Lutheran escaped with a win over the Sagehens.
