Women's Soccer: Four Sagehens Score In 4-0 Win Over Caltech

PASADENA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Caltech 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 9-2-1 overall and 6-2-1 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens had four different players score in the win over Caltech with junior Bria VarnBuhler, freshman Anna Ponzio, junior Brianna Lau and senior Sarah Jones all finding the back of the net.

Pomona-Pitzer came out firing in the first half as they registered 14 shots with eight of them on goal. Jones got the scoring going for the Sagehens with a goal in the 14th minute of the match off of an assist from junior Megan Kuo. VarnBuhler followed up with a goal as she clanked a ball off of the crossbar and followed up with a tap in to get the Sagehens on top 2-0 heading into halftime.

Pomona-Pitzer added two more goals in the second half. Lau picked up right where the Sagehens left off in the first half as she snuck a ball past the keeper and netted her third goal of the season inside the first two minutes of the half. Freshman Anna Ponzio ended the day for the Sagehens with a goal in the 53rd minute as she took it herself from outside the box and found the back of the net to cap off a nice offensive performance for the Sagehens to earn their fifth conference win of the season.
