CLAREMONT, CA. -- The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team fell in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship 15-3 against CMS on Saturday afternoon at Zinda Field.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens end the year at 13-6 overall and a second place finish in the SCIAC this season.
The Sagehens and Athenas met for the second-straight year in the SCIAC Tournament Championship as CMS has walked away with the last three SCIAC titles.
Pomona-Pitzer got out to a good start and was able to stay in the game with the Athenas in the first half. The Sagehens netted the first goal of the game as Havill opened up the first half with a goal to take a 1-0 lead.
The Athenas answered with four-straight goals to take a 4-1 lead, but the Sagehens answered with back-to-back goals from Herrmann and Thomey to cut the deficit down to one goal at 4-3 with 13 minutes left until halftime. The Athenas extended their lead before half with a powerplay goal and then two more before the whistle as they held a 7-3 advantage at halftime.
It was all CMS in the second half as the Sagehens failed to net a goal in the final half of the game. The CMS offense was able to score eight answered goals with the Sagehens picking up five cards in the second half alone. Pomona-Pitzer had eight shots in the second half but none of them could find the back of the net as CMS earned the 2019 SCIAC Tournament Championship.
