REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team opened up 2019 with a 16-3 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands on Wednesday night at Farquhar Field.
The Sagehens were led by senior Lilly Thomey who had five goals in the win for the Sagehens. Sophomore Sarah Woo also tallied a hat-trick in the opener with three goals while sophomore Kate Immergluck, junior Sonia Olson and freshman Zoe Puccia had two goals each while freshmen Jessalyn Simon-Parker and Maggie Sweeney chipped in with one. Junior Annie Price started out her season with a win in goal as she tallied five saves in the win.
Redlands opened up the game with an early goal inside the first two minutes of the game, but that was the only lead the Bulldogs would have as the Sagehens answered with seven-straight goals and held Redlands scoreless for the remainder of the half. Woo and Thomey scored back-to-back goals with assists coming from Immergluck and then Woo followed with a free position goal to give the Sagehens a 3-1 lead. Olson followed up with her first goal of the game and Puccia scored her first collegiate goal off of a free position shot to take a 5-1 lead. The Sagehens ended the half strong with two more from Thomey and Simon-Parker to take a 7-1 at halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer picked up right where they left off in the second half as they opened up with two goals inside the first minute of play from Immergluck and Olson. Woo completed her hat-trick with an unassisted goal and then Thomey took off with three-straight goals to give the Sagehens a 13-1 lead.
Redlands got back on the board after 13-straight goals but the Sagehens added three more to end the night from Sweeney, Immergluck and Puccia to cap off a good start to the 2019 season.
