CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team defeated non-conference opponent Allegheny College 17-5 on a rainy night at the South Athletics Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 7-2 overall and remain at 3-1 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Sarah Woo who notched a career-high five goals in the win over the Gators. Lilly Thomey also tallied a hat-trick, her seventh of the season and fourth in a row, with three goals. Annie Price earned her seventh win of the year for the Sagehens in goal as she stopped 11 shots in the win.
The Gators jumped out on top early in the first half as they scored first to open up the game 1-0 just three minutes in, but it was all Sagehens after that as Pomona-Pitzer went on to outscore the Gators 11-2 for the remainder of the half.
Pomona-Pitzer's offense then took off with seven-straight goals to blow the game wide open. Woo tallied a hat-trick within the 11-goal run while Sonia Olson, Kate Immergluck and Isabel Schmidt scored as well to widen the gap to 9-2.
Allegheny ended the streak with its final goal of the half but the Sagehens added two more before halftime as Woo scored her fourth goal of the half and Sal Marx ended the half with an exclamation point on a free position shot with four seconds remaining to hold a commanding 11-3 lead at the half.
Thomey started off the second half with two goals in a row to earn her seventh hat-trick of the season followed by the second goals of the game from Immergluck and Schmidt to take a 15-3 lead over the Gators.
Allegheny showed some life late in the game as they found the back of the net for back-to-back goals but the Sagehens finished the night strong with two goals to end the game from Woo and Lily Hermann to cap off a 17-goal night.
