LAX: Sagehens Fall To Athenas In Sixth Street Rivalry

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent CMS 15-5 on Saturday night at the South Athletics Complex.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop their first SCIAC game of the year and fall to 1-1 overall and also 1-1 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Lilly Thomey who has a team-high two goals in the loss. Thyra Hermann, Sophie Hubbell and Sarah Woo each notched a goal apiece in the loss.

CMS took control of the game early in the first half as their defense shut down the Sagehens in the first half. The Athenas scored all six of the first half goals as Pomona-Pitzer was shutout in the first as they went into halftime with a 6-0 deficit.

The Athenas started the second half with three-straight goals before the Sagehens got on the board with Thyra Hermann finding the back of the net off of an assist from Hubbell to bring the score to 9-1.

Pomona-Pitzer went on to score back-to-back goals in the second half from Thomey and Hubbell's free position goal and then again with Woo and Thomey with 3:01 to go to cut the lead down to 14-5.

The Sagehens looked much better offensively in the second half but the first half lead built by the Athenas proved to be the difference as they took game one of the Sixth Street Rivalry.
