CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team fell to non-conference opponent Colorado College 25-9 on Sunday afternoon at the South Athletics Complex.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens drop to 5-7 overall while the Tigers improve to 12-2 overall.
The Sagehens were led by senior Rebecca Long who had a team-high three goals as she tallied her ninth hat trick of the season. Freshman Christian Rowe contributed two goals to the total for the Sagehens while freshman Sophia Silane, freshman Sophie Hubbell, sophomore Lilly Thomey and freshman Eileen Mahler each had one.
The Tigers were led by Annie DeFrino who had a game-high five goals in the win while Eva King and Ellie Meyer chipped in with four.
The Tigers opened up the first half with an explosion of offense as they netted 16 total goals in the first half.
Colorado College started off with five of the first six goals of the game with Rowe getting a goal for the Sagehens on a free position shot but Pomona-Pitzer trailed the Tigers 5-1 early on.
After another free position goal for the Sagehens by Long, the Tigers scored three-straight goals until Thomey scored another free position shot for Pomona-Pitzer as they trailed 8-3 with 15:05 left in the half.
Colorado College extended the lead to 11-3 but the Sagehens scored four of the next five goals of the game coming from Long, Mahler, and Hubbell to cut the lead down to just 12-7 with 5:11 to go until halftime.
The Tigers responded with four unanswered goals to end the half as they held a 16-7 lead heading into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer only found the back of the net twice in the second half as they scored back to back goals as Silane scored off of a free position shot and Rowe scored her second goal of the game with 18:28 remaining but the Tigers were too much for the Sagehens in this one as they held on for the win.
