LAX: Sagehens Fall Short Against Occidental

CLAREMONT, CA — Rebecca Long notched her third hat-trick of the season, Sallie Marx had a game-high three assists, but the Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team fell short against the visiting Occidental College Tigers 12-11, Wednesday night at the South Athletics Complex.

Long finished the game with three goals against the Tigers, scoring all three in the first half. Her 12 goals lead the Sagehens and rank fourth in the SCIAC.

The Sagehens led Occidental by one coming out of the break, but the Tigers went on a 3-1 run to start the second half to take a 10-9 lead. Freshman Sophie Hubbell evened the game at 10-10 on an assist by Long just over ten minutes into the half, but the Tigers rallied off three more goals to seal the win. 

Hubbell finished the game with three goals matching her career-high. The freshman from Moraga, CA scored three goals in a 16-3 blowout win against Augustana last week. Hubbell ranks third on Pomona-Pitzer with seven goals this season.

Freshman Sonia Olson and sophomore Lilly Thomey each scored two goals. Sallie Marx added a goal to go with her three assists. Marx currently leads the SCIAC with eight assists.

Christian Rowe also dished out an assist. Mckenzie Scott had seven saves. 

Season Impact: The Sagehens drop to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in SCIAC play. 

Occidental improves to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
