CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team fell to Colorado College 16-8 on Sunday afternoon at the South Athletics Complex.
The Sagehens were led by junior Rebecca Long who tallied four goals for her fourth hat-trick of the season.
The Tigers were led by Mary Taussig who collected five goals on the day. Nikki Blair and Steph Kelly each tallied four goals as well for Colorado College.
The Tigers scored five of the first six goals of the game all coming off of free position shots. Senior Aubrey Douglass scored the first goal of the game for the Sagehens as she found the back of the net off of a pass from senior Katie Savino but the Tigers held a 5-1 lead with 11:51 left in the first half.
Long scored her first goal of the game with 10:44 left in the first half as she cut the Tigers' lead down to 5-2. The Tigers went on to score two-straight goals from Taussig and Kelly to extend the lead to 7-2.
Senior Sarah Markowitz scored her first goal of the game and Long added two more to her total in the first half but the Tigers went into the half with a 9-5 lead.
The second half was controlled by Colorado College as they outscored the Sagehens 7-3.
The Tigers came out and scored two quick goals by Kelly until Long scored her fourth and final goal with 25:12 left in the game as Colorado College held a 11-6 lead.
Douglass and Markowitz each netted one more goal in the second half but the Tigers ended the game with four unanswered goals as they handed the Sagehens their second loss of the season.
The Sagehens next take the field as they travel across the street to SCIAC rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday, April 9th at 1:00 p.m.
