LAX: Sagehens' Undefeated Season Snapped With 13-11 Loss To Chapman

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's lacrosse team had their undefeated season snapped by Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Chapman 13-11 in the final minute of the game on Saturday afternoon at the South Athletics Complex.

The Sagehens were led by senior Aubrey Douglass who tallied her second-straight hat-trick with four goals and three assists in the loss. Senior Sarah Markowitz also had a hat-trick with three goals on the day.

Chapman was led by Tessa Oliaro who led the Panthers with three goals.

The game was a very close back and forth battle as the lead never exceeded two goals by either team.

The Panthers started out with the lead as Danielle Zahn scored the first goal of the game to give Chapman an early 1-0 lead.

The Sagehens responded just over a minute later as Douglass scored her first goal of the game to even up the score at 1-1.

Chapman went on to score two-straight goals from Stacey Zuppa and Brooke Martini before freshman Amelia Miller notched her first goal for the Sagehens as Chapman held a 3-2 lead at the 16:14 minute mark.

Zuppa added her second goal of the game as Chapman held a two goal lead before the Sagehens rattled off four-straight goals coming from Douglass, Markowitz and two in a row from junior Rebecca Long to give Pomona-Pitzer a 6-4 lead.

Chapman responded with three-straight goals to end the half and held a 7-6 lead going into halftime.

The Panthers opened up the second half with a goal in the first minute of play to take an 8-6 lead. The Panthers and Sagehens alternated goals the rest of the half until Pomona-Pitzer scored two goals in a row coming from Markowitz and Douglass to tie the game up at 11-11 with just under eight minutes to go.

The Panthers held possession for the final minutes of the game and struck late in the half as Zahn found the back of the net with just 46 seconds to go. Oliaro added the final goal of the game as the Sagehens tried desperately to get back possession of the ball as the Panthers ended the Sagehens' eight game winning streak.

The Sagehens next take the field as they host SCIAC opponent Whittier on Wednesday, March 30th at 7:00 p.m.
