REDLANDS, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's lacrosse team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Redlands 7-5 on Wednesday night in Redlands, California.
The Sagehens were led by junior Rebecca Long who tallied three goals for her first hat-trick of the season.
Redlands opened up the game with a goal just a minute and a half into the game as Stephanie Garrett broke free for an early goal.
The Sagehens responded just over a minute later as senior Sarah Markowitz found the back of the net to even the score at 1-1.
The Bulldogs reclaimed the lead as Garrett found her second goal of the half off of an assist from Ducle Moll to give Redlands a 2-1 lead.
Senior Aubrey Douglass gave the Sagehens her first goal of the game as Long led her into the box as Pomona-Pitzer tied the game at 2-2 with 17:14 left in the half.
Moll gave the Bulldogs the lead for the third time in the half but freshman Lilly Thomey responded with another goal for the Sagehens to tie the game at 3-3.
Pomona-Pitzer took its first lead of the game at 4-3 with 8:08 left in the half as Long scored her first goal of the game off of a pass from Douglass
Redlands responded with 4:22 left in the half as Moll netted her second goal of the half to tie the game up at 4-4 heading into the locker room.
The second half started out as a defensive battle as neither team could generate any offense within the early stages of the second period.
The Sagehens scored the first goal of the half as Long found her second goal of the game to take a 5-4 lead.
The Bulldogs responded just two minutes later as Hanna Morford found the net to tie the game for the fifth time on the day.
Pomona-Pitzer was able to get ahead as sophomore Sallie Marx and Long scored just two minutes apart, both off of assists from Douglass, to give the Sagehens a 7-5 lead with 9:38 to go.
The Sagehen defense stood strong down the stretch with a two goal lead and Pomona-Pitzer held off Redlands to claim their fourth-straight win.
The Sagehens next take the field as they host Drew University on Thursday, March 10th at 7 p.m.
