LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Pomona-Pitzer women's lacrosse team won their second-straight game of the season with a 10-7 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Occidental on Saturday afternoon at Jack Kemp Stadium.
The Sagehens jumped out a quick lead as they scored four-straight goals to open up the game. Junior Rebecca Long scored the first two goals of the game, one off of an assist from senior Katie Savino and one off of a free position shot to give Pomona-Pitzer a 2-0 lead with 21:33 left in the first half.
The Sagehens scored two more as freshman Lilly Thomey scored her second goal of the season and senior Ally McLaughlin found the net off of a pass from Long to put the Sagehens up 4-0 with 17:44 to go.
Occidental got on the board with two-straight goals to cut the Pomona-Pitzer lead down to 4-2 but the Sagehens responded with two goals of their own coming off of free position shots by McLaughlin and freshman Nicole Larson to take a 6-2 lead at the break.
The Tigers came all the way back to make it interesting as they started the second half on a scoring spree. Occidental went on to score five unanswered goals to take a 7-6 lead with 12:31 left in the game.
The Sagehens will next host Otterbein on Monday, February 29th at 7:00 p.m. at the South Athletics Complex.
