A Senior Cruise: Sagehens Roll Past Chapman On Senior Day

Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team scored the first eight goals of the game and went on to a 14-4 win over Chapman on Saturday afternoon as part of the program's Senior Day.

With the win. the Sagehens improve to 10-3 overall and maintain a two-game lead in the SCIAC standings at 7-1 with two games left to play in the regular season. The first-place finisher earns the top seed and home field advantage in the conference tournament, which begins on April 22. Chapman falls to 6-4 overall and 4-4 in the SCIAC with the loss.

The five members of the Class of 2015 (pictured with their families) were honored pregame. Sophomore Rebecca Long led the Sagehens with four goals, while junior Aubrey Douglass had two goals and three assists and junior Ally McLaughlin had a goal and three assists.

Pomona-Pitzer's all-senior defense had a big role in the win, holding Chapman to only four goals and forcing sophomore goalie Gaby Fukumura to make only six saves. Annie Schatz, Zoe Brown, Brenna Gormally and Alexa Sarussi were dominant defensively on their Senior Day, while Julie Necarsulmer earned extended minutes at attack as well.

Long had a hat trick by the 18:01 mark of the first half, making the score 5-0 and junior Grace Geller had back to back goals to push the lead to 8-0 with 8:16 left in the half. After the Panthers scored the final goal of the half, the Sagehens scored the first five of the second half to take any drama out of the final 30 minutes.

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to CMS, which handed the Sagehens their only conference loss in overtime. A win would clinch the top seed for Pomona-Pitzer, while a CMS win would put pressure on the Sagehens to defeat Redlands in their final game on Monday, April 20.
