Second-Half Scoring Run Leads Chapman Past Sagehens

Orange, Calif. - Junior Jana London (Chevy Chase, Md. - pictured) scored five goals, but the Chapman Women's Lacrosse team used a 5-0 run in the second half to break open a tie game and earn a 15-9 win over the Sagehens on Friday evening.

With the win, Chapman improves to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in the SCIAC, while Pomona-Pitzer slips to 8-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Allie Kontny led the Panthers with five goals and two assists, while Victoria Wilkinson had four second-half goals.

London scored her fourth goal of the game early in the second half (27:31 remaining) to tie the score 8-8 after Chapman took an 8-7 lead into intermission. However, the Sagehens would not find the net again until London scored her fifth with 4:17 left.

In between, the Panthers rattled off five straight goals, three of them from Wilkinson, to make the score 13-8. London scored to make it 13-9, but Chapman finished off the scoring with two more, as Wilkinson and Kontny added to their stat lines to help seal the win. Chapman held a 37-22 edge in shots on the day.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Wednesday night for its regular season home finale when it hosts Redlands for a 7 p.m. contest.
