REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands 64-56 on Saturday afternoon at Currier Gym.
Season impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 6-15 overall and 3-9 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens and Bulldogs played a very even first quarter. Redlands jumped out ahead early but the Sagehens stayed with the Bulldogs for the majority of the quarter. The Sagehens eventually took the lead in the first at 10-9 after an Ikehara three but the Bulldogs ended the quarter on a 7-3 run and took a 17-13 lead heading into the second.
Pomona-Pitzer battled back in the second and chipped away at the lead to bring the deficit to just two points at 24-22 with 4:37 left in the half but couldn't retake the lead as they went into the half trailing 30-24.
The Sagehens got down by as much as nine points in the third quarter but made up some ground as they outscored Redlands 14-13 in the quarter. Pomona-Pitzer battled back and cut the lead down to 41-38 but the Bulldogs connected on a jump shot with 13 seconds left in the quarter to take a 43-38 to enter the fourth.
Pomona-Pitzer tallied a game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter but unfortunately as did Redlands with 21 points in the fourth. The Sagehens got the Bulldogs' lead down as little as three points with 6:06 left in the game but Redlands was able to fight off the Sagehens' attempted comeback and held on for the narrow win.
