CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Cal Lutheran 77-55 on Wednesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the loss, Pomona-Pitzer drops to 0-11 overall and 0-2 in conference play while the Regals improve to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in the SCIAC this season.
The Sagehens were led by senior Alaina Woo who tallied a game-high 19 points in the loss. Senior Kacie Hitomi scored 13 points to go along with seven rebounds and sophomore Keilani Ikehara chipped in with 11 points and five steals.
The Regals were led by the duo of Jessica Salottolo and Haley Hodgson who each had a team-high 14 points. Sofia Cruz chipped in with 10 and Tatiana Dunlap came off the bench with 11.
The Regals got out to a quick 6-0 lead after a made jump shot and two straight steals in the Sagehens backcourt that forced the Sagehens to call a quick timeout just 30 seconds into the first quarter.
The full court press worked out well for the Regals early on as they forced the Sagehens' offense to turn the ball over eight times and held a 24-17 lead after the first.
Cal Lutheran did most of its damage off of Pomona-Pitzer's miscues in the first half as they capitalized with 16 points off of turnovers to take a 40-29 lead heading into the half.
The Regals came back to the press in the third and quickly jumped out to a 10-0 run to start the quarter.
The Sagehens' offense struggled in the third quarter as they were held to seven points and trailed 58-36 heading into the fourth.
Pomona-Pitzer played its best basketball in the fourth as they matched Cal Lutheran with 19 points, which was their highest scoring quarter of the game, but ultimately fell to the Regals for their second-straight SCIAC loss of the year.
