Women's Basketball: Sagehens Fall In Game One Of UCSC Holiday Classic To Southern Oregon

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to Southern Oregon 95-53 in the first game of the UCSC Holiday Classic on Saturday night.

With the loss, The Sagehens fall to 0-7 on the year while Southern Oregon improves to 5-1 this season.

The Sagehens were led by sophomore Anita Romero who had a season-high 22 points in the loss.

Southern Oregon was led by Autum Durand who had a game-high 28 points and 14 rebounds in the win for the Raiders.

The Raiders had their way in the paint against the Sagehens as they outscored the Sagehens 48-18 inside the key for the game. The Southern Oregon defense was a force tonight as they forced the Sagehens to commit 27 turnovers.

Southern Oregon came out in the first quarter and was kept in check by the Sagehens as the Raiders only held a 23-16 lead after the first.

The Raiders had their big quarter in the second as they outscored the Sagehens 26-9 and went into halftime with a 49-25 lead.

The Sagehens had better offensive output in the second half as they tallied 14 points in the third and fourth quarters but couldn't come back from the first half deficit as they fall to 0-7 on the year.
