REDLANDS, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Redlands 61-54 on Wednesday night.
Redlands was led by Brinsley Farry who tallied a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
The game started off as a defensive battle with both teams held under 34% from the field in the first quarter but Redlands ended the quarter with a 12-6 lead.
Redlands pushed its lead to eight points at 22-14 with 3:33 left in the first half after a Jade Cheldelin free throw. The Sagehens responded and cut the lead down to four points with just under two minutes to go but the Bulldogs ended the half hitting four of their final five shots to take a 32-24 lead going into the locker room.
The Sagehens came out in the third quarter and immediately closed the gap on the Bulldogs as Pomona-Pitzer pulled to within two points after a Brulee-Wills layup with 6:24 to go in the quarter.
Pomona-Pitzer outscored Redlands 17-15 in the third and the Bulldogs held a 47-41 lead going into the final quarter of play.
The Bulldogs kept their distance for much of the fourth quarter as they never allowed the Sagehens to tie the game or take the lead. Woo hit a big three-point shot for the Sagehens to bring the game to 56-52 with only 2:12 remaining but the Bulldogs would hold off the Pomona-Pitzer comeback and split the season series with the Sagehens.
The Sagehens continue SCIAC play as they next host Chapman on Saturday, February 6th at 7 p.m.
