La Mirada Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team cut a 14-point Biola lead down to five in the second half, but the Eagles were able to regroup and pull away for a 77-62 win at Chase Gym.
With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 1-6 overall on the season, while the Eagles improve to 8-3 with the victory
Biola used a 10-0 run to turn a 12-9 Pomona-Pitzer lead into a 19-12 advantage. The Eagles led by as many as 14 at 32-18, before the Sagehens were able to close within 36-25 at the break. After Biola restored its 14-point lead at 43-29 with 16:09 left, Pomona-Pitzer used a 9-0 run to pull within 43-38 on two foul shots from junior forward Amelia Hummel (pictured).
Aubree Mittel stopped the run with a three-pointer, and after a Hummel jumper gave her 10 points and made the score 46-40, the Eagles scored the next eight points, capped by another Mittel three-pointer, to push the lead to 54-40.
The Sagehens had five players in double figures in the loss, as Hummel and sophomore Basha Brulee-Wills each had 12, sophomore guard Alaina Woo had 11, and junior forward Jenn Okonkwo and freshman forward Cassandra Palmer each had 10. Okonkwo added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Annie Park had 19 and Mittel 18 to lead the way for Biola.
Pomona-Pitzer will now have three weeks off for final exams and the holiday break, before returning to action on Tuesday, Dec. 30 for a home game against St. Joseph's (Maine) at 2 p.m.
