CLAREMONT, CA — Olivia Campion finished the day with four hits and a home run, but the Pomona-Pitzer Softball team fell twice to the Redlands Bulldogs on the road Saturday afternoon.
Game One: Redlands 4, Pomona-Pitzer 3
The Sagehens had the tying run at third in the top of the seventh inning, but couldn't get the runner across the plate, dropping the first game to the Bulldogs by one.
After trailing 4-0, the Sagehens rallied in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to just one run. With Izzy Deatherage on second and Kendal Kipper on first pinch running for Olivia Campion, Emily Rockhill singled to bring in Deatherage.
Pomona-Pitzer loaded the bases in the top of the seventh after Liz Rodarte was hit by a pitch and back-to-back singles by Deatherage and Campion, but Redlands' pitcher Lindsey Mifsud struck out the next batter to end the game.
Campion had a standout performance, going three for four at the plate.
Game Two: Redlands 5, Pomona-Pitzer 2
Liz Rodarte struck out six and the Sagehens led through the first four innings, but the Bulldogs rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to come away with the win.
Pomona-Pitzer doubled their lead in the fourth off a solo home run by Olivia Campion to start off the inning. Redlands pulled the game even in the fifth after a single up the middle scored Shannon Skrzynski before eventually taking the lead the next inning.
Rodarte increased her strikeout total to 44 this season, placing her second in the SCIAC.
Season Impact: The Sagehens drop to 5-13 overall and 3-7 in SCIAC play. Redlands improves to 6-12 and 4-6.
Next Game: The Sagehens take a break from SCIAC action when they host Williams College next Friday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
