CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Cross Country team earned their fourth West Regional title in program history on Saturday afternoon.
The Sagehens finished first by a landslide at the Regional Meet with 35 points. In second place was UC Santa Cruz with 90, CMS in third at 103 and Occidental in fourth with 132.
"Today was a great day for PPXC as the men qualified for nationals for the sixth-straight year", said Head Coach Jordan Carpenter. "I thought this was our best performance of the year and I think the team is in a great spot heading into the national meet."
Pomona-Pitzer earns its fourth West Regional Championship and their first since 2013.
The Sagehens were led by Andy Reischling who took the West Regional title with a time of 25:04. Reischling is the fifth Sagehen to win the West title as Gerry Harnett (1978), Pat Toulouse (1980), Sieg Lindstrom (1983) and Crosby Freeman (2005) also won regional titles.
"Andy has been a rockstar all season for us and it was great to see all of his hard work pay off with another big win during the championship season.", said Carpenter. "He made a big move just before the three-mile mark and was able to break away to secure the win."
The Sagehens had four of their runners finish inside the top-10 as Colin Muligan took fourth at 25:24.87, James Kinney finished in eighth at 25:35.39 and Julian DeGroot-Lutzner took ninth with a time of 25:38.11.
Owen Woo rounded out the top-five runners for the Sagehens as he finished in 13th place overall with a time of 25:48.95.
Nicholas Vucovich finished just inside the top-20 at 19th overall with a time of 26:06.45 and Carter Stripp ended the meet for the Sagehens in 44th overall with a time of 26:55.01.
The Sagehens will next run in the NCAA National Championship meet at Principia College on Saturday, November 18th at 11:00 a.m.
