Men's Water Polo: Diemer Earns SCIAC Athlete Of The Year; Four Sagehens Earn All-SCIAC

CLAREMONT, Ca. – Senior goalkeeper Daniel Diemer earned SCIAC Athlete of the Year while teammates Adam Ward, Joseph Schafer and Jacob Niskey earned All-Conference honors.

Diemer was named the 2017 SCIAC Athlete of the Year after pacing the Sagehens to a 13-1 record in conference play and the top seed in the upcoming SCIAC Tournament.

Diemer, a First Team All-SCIAC selection as a junior in 2016, helped the Sagehens clinch the top seed in the SCIAC Tournament after leading the team to a 13-1 record in league play. The St. Louis, Mo. native made 66 saves in conference play spanning 309:30 minutes between the posts. He notched a .532 save percentage and 6.00 goals-against average in addition to contributing an assist en route to a 7-1 record.  

Ward earned First Team All-SCIAC for the second-straight season as led the Sagehens in goals with 43 and tallied 47 points on the year. Ward has been a scoring threat all season long for the Sagehens with five hat-tricks on the year and a season-high five goals against Cal Lutheran.

Niskey and Schafer both earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors in their second collegiate seasons as Sagehens. Niskey has helped out on the offensive side of the ball this season as the sophomore totaled 33 goals this season with three hat-tricks including a career-high four goals against La Verne this year. Schafer has also been a threat on offense this season as he finished the year with 38 goals this season trailing only Ward for most goals on the team. Schafer has two hat-tricks to his name but has 13 multi-goal games this season.

Pomona-Pitzer ended the year claiming their second-straight SCIAC Regular Season title and clinched the No. 1 seed for the first four-team SCIAC Postseason Tournament where they will take on the No. 4 seeded CMS Stags on Friday, November 17th at 7:00 p.m. at Haldeman Pool.
