Men's Water Polo: No. 19 Sagehens Hold Off Leopards For 13-11 Win

LA VERNE, CA. – The No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent La Verne 13-11 on Wednesday afternoon at Las Flores Pool.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 20-10 on the year and 11-1 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Jacob Niskey who tallied a season-high four goals in the win while Dylan Elliott notched his second-straight hat-trick with three goals. Daniel Diemer got the win in today's game as he tallied three saves to earn his 12th win of the season.

The Sagehens got out to a quick start against the Leopards as they put up four goals in the first after back to back goals from Adam Ward and Niskey to open up the first and then ended the period with two-straight goals from Keegan Coleman and Elliott to hold a 4-1 lead heading into the second.

La Verne matched the Sagehens with three goals in the second period as the Sagehens went into halftime with a 7-4 lead.

Pomona-Pitzer came out of halftime with back to back goals by Riley Mangan and Niskey to take a 9-4 lead. After the Leopards responded with a goal of their own, the Sagehens scored two of the last three goals of the period from Elliott and Sam Gorcey-Biblowitz to hold an 11-6 advantage heading into the fourth.

The Sagehens took their largest lead of the game at 12-6 after an opening fourth quarter goal by Niskey, but the Leopards came roaring back in the fourth with five goals but the Sagehens' defense was able to hold off the Leopards for their seventh-straight conference win of the season.
