ORANGE, Calif. – The No. 15 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team ended the 2016 regular season with a 12-8 win on the road over Chapman University on Saturday Afternoon.
With that win, The Sagehens end the regular season unbeaten in conference play with a perfect 8-0 record and improve to 20-8 overall.
The Sagehens were led by sophomore Adam Ward and junior Mark Hallman who each tallied a team-high three goals in the win. Freshman Joseph Schafer and freshman Jacob Niskey added two each to the teams total while senior Tommy Turner and sophomore Max Ries each added one.
Pomona-Pitzer jumped ahead of the Panthers in the first quarter as Ward tallied three of the game's first four goals himself to give the Sagehens a 3-1 lead. Each team tacked on one more in the quarter as Pomona-Pitzer led 4-2 after the first.
The Panthers battled back in the second quarter as they outscored the Sagehens 3-2 and cut the lead down to just one point at 6-5 going into the half.
The Sagehens created a little space for themselves in the third quarter as they tallied four goals, two of which by Hallman, as Pomona-Pitzer extended its lead to 10-7 heading into the fourth.
Pomona-Pitzer added two more goals in the fourth and held the Panthers offense to only one goal as they completed their undefeated SCIAC run.
Up Next: The Sagehens will enter the SCIAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed with their first game on Friday, November 18th. The SCIAC Tournament will be hosted by Caltech at Pasadena City College.
