Men's Water Polo: No. 16 Sagehens Dominate Poets On Senior Day, 10-3

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No.16 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team dominated in their Senior Day game against Whittier College with a 10-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at Haldeman Pool.

The Sagehens were led by sophomore Adam Ward, freshman Joseph Schafer and senior James Baker who each tallied two goals in the win.

Junior goal keeper Daniel Diemer held the Poets to only three goals in today's match and shutout the Poets in three of the four periods.

The Sagehens controlled the first quarter as sophomore Max Ries and freshman Zach Senator scored the only goals of the period to help Pomona-Pitzer gain a 2-0 lead after the first.

The Poets played a competitive second quarter as both teams scored three goals to bring the score to 5-3 in favor of the Sagehens at halftime.

Pomona-Pitzer took over the game in the second half as the defense shut down the Poets' offense and did not allow another goal for the remainder of the match.

The Sagehens tacked on two goals in the third by Baker and senior Tommy Turner and then added on three more in the fourth as Shafer, Baker and freshman Riley Mangan found the back of the net.

With the win, the Sagehens remain in first place in the SCIAC and improve to 14-7 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
