M Water Polo Falls in Last Minute to Chapman, 9-8

Claremont, Calif. - Chapman scored two goals in the last 1:30 to break a 7-7 fourth quarter tie, and a late Pomona-Pitzer goal with 24 seconds left narrowed the gap, but Chapman held on for a 9-8 win Saturday afternoon in Haldeman Pool. With the loss, Pomona-Pitzer falls to 8-11 overall and 1-1 in SCIAC. 

In a closely-fought conference battle, Pomona-Pitzer led after one, 3-2, but Chapman outscored the Sagehens, 3-2, in the second for a 6-6 halftime tie. Both teams were scoreless in the third, and Chapman outscored Pomona-Pitzer, 4-3, in the final quarter for the win.

Adam Ward (pictured) scored three goals -- all in the fourth quarter -- to lead Pomona-Pitzer, while Nic Lanker added two, and Timmy Hardman, Tommy Turner and Neil Forsyth each added one. Goalie Daniel Diemer tallied 11 saves. 

Pomona-Pitzer travels to Whittier Wednesday for a 7:00pm SCIAC match.
