Sagehens Surge Past Caltech, Host La Verne Saturday

Pasadena, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team shook off a slow start and sped past Caltech for a 19-5 win on Wednesday afternoon in Pasadena.

With the win, the Sagehens improve to 7-14 overall and 3-2 in the SCIAC with wins in each of their last two matches.

The score was only 4-2 after the first quarter, but Pomona-Pitzer jumped out to a 10-4 lead at the half and then outscored the Beavers 4-0 in the third quarter to put the game away.

Senior Kyle Van der Linde led the way with four goals for the Sagehens, while Devon Kennedy, Bennett Royce and Nic Lanker each had three. Phillip Clayman and Austin Strong also had multi-goal games with two apiece, and Neil Forsythe, Mark Hallman and Travis Larsen each added one. Daniel Diemer had seven saves in goal.

The Sagehens will be back in action on Saturday for their final match at Haldeman Pool, taking on La Verne at 11 a.m. The two teams played earlier this season with the Leopards taking a 10-9 win in their home pool on a save in the final second of regulation.

The La Verne match will be the final home appearance for Pomona-Pitzer's senior class of Stephen Vint, Strong (pictured), Van der Linde and Larsen, although the quartet was honored for Senior Day last week prior to a 9-7 win over Redlands.
