Sagehens Drop Two Matches To Ranked Teams

Stockton, Calif. - Pomona-Pitzer gave No. 11 UC Davis a strong battle before falling 11-6 in the consolation quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at the Kap7 NorCal Classic hosted by the University of the Pacific.

The Sagehens also fell to No. 2 UCLA 24-0 in their first game of the day. With the losses, Pomona-Pitzer slips to 0-8 on the year, with five of the losses coming to teams ranked in the top 11 in the country.

It took until the second quarter of the UC Davis game before Pomona-Pitzer was able to break the ice with a goal, as senior Stephen Vint (pictured) found the back of the net to close the Aggies lead to 4-1. Senior Travis Larsen came right back with another goal to make it 4-2, and after UC Davis took a 5-2 lead into the break, sophomore Nic Lanker scored to make it 5-3 early in the second half.

That was as close as the Sagehens could come, though, as UC Davis scored the next two goals to make the score 7-3 and took a 9-4 lead after three quarters. Vint added his second goal late, while Tommy Turner and Phillip Clayman also had goals for Pomona-Pitzer. Ethan Caleb Prater-Fahey totaled 11 saves in net.

The Sagehens will be back tomorrow on the second day of the NorCal Classic, facing the loser of this afternoon's game between Air Force and Loyola Marymount at 9:20 a.m.
