Sagehens Fall To No. 1 USC, No. 9 Long Beach State

Palo Alto, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team continued its brutal early season schedule with losses to No. 1 USC and No. 9 Long Beach State at the NorCal Tournament on Saturday.

The Sagehens fell to USC in the morning 22-1, and then lost a 16-5 decision to Long Beach State in the afternoon. The losses drop Pomona-Pitzer to 0-8 on the year, with six of the eight losses coming to teams ranked in the top 10 in the nation (including two against No. 1 USC). The other two losses have come to No. 12 UC Davis, and No. 19 Concordia (Calif.).

Senior Jason Cox (pictured) scored in both matches for the Sagehens, netting the only goal in the loss to the top-ranked Trojans. He was joined in the scoring column against Long Beach State by senior Mark Hudnall, junior Ryan Higgins, sophomore Stephen Vint and freshman Neil Forsythe.
 
Junior goalie Tyler Hill had six first half saves against Long Beach State, while sophomore Austin Strong had five in the second half.

Pomona-Pitzer concludes play at the NorCal Tournament tomorrow with two matches, the first of which will take place in the morning at 8 a.m. against either UC Davis or Santa Clara.
