Men's Track & Field: Sagehens Excel at Rossi Relays

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Track & Field Team saw plenty of positive results at the Rossi Relays on Saturday afternoon, with 16 athletes setting personal bests at Fritz Burns Stadium. Competing against the top athletes from Division II, III and NAIA programs, the Rossi Relays provided a valuable experience for the Sagehens before they begin their conference meets.

"In our final preseason meet of the year, we wanted to get most of our group out competing," said Head Coach Jordan Carpenter. "For a good chunk of our distance athletes, this was their first opportunity to compete this season. I couldn't be happier with how we ran in the 3,000 and it's always fun to see so many lifetime bests. I am excited to see what that group can do as we move into the regular season. As we head into our first SCIAC competition of the season I am very pleased where we are as a group. We still have a lot of work to do, but we are on the right track."

Daniel Tamkin posted a lifetime best in the 100 Meter Dash, tying for 11th overall at 11.13 seconds. Nick Marsano followed right behind 14th at 11.13 seconds, and Alexander Bartone took 29th at 11.50.

The Sagehens saw eight runners finish within the top-13 in the 3,000 Meter Run with Andy Reischling finishing third overall, best among Division III runners in the 3000 Meter run, clocking in at 8:26.26. Daniel Rosen followed in fourth at 8:29.62 and Owen Woo took fifth at 8:32.48. Daniel Hill finished sixth at 8:33.40 and Julian Degroot-Lutzner was 10th at 8:38.01. Ethan Ashby crossed in 11th at 8:38.93 and Paul McKinley took 12th at 8:39.17. Hugo Ward placed 13th at 8:39.40.

Over in the throws, Samuel Khasnavis placed 18th in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 118-04 (36.06m) while Warren Hosseinion took 20th at 109-07 (33.40m). Khasnavis also tied for 15th in the Discus at 130-01 (39.65m) while Hosseinion placed 21st at 122-01 (37.21m).

Up Next: The Sagehens will return home next weekend on March 2 to host a conference dual against Occidental College, Chapman University, Whittier College, and Caltech at Strehle Track at 10:00 a.m.
