CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-PItzer Men's Tennis Team battled to a close victory over the University of Redlands on Friday evening, winning at home 5-4. Despite losing the doubles round, the Sagehens managed to bounce back with four victories in the singles round.
Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to a 10-11 record overall and 5-1 in the SCIAC.
The Sagehens fell behind in doubles 2-1 against the Bulldogs. Nils Skattum and Jed Kronenberg defeated Chase Lipscob and Andrew Leahy in no. 3 doubles 8-4, but Octave Bellet de Giacomoni and Joshua Gearou fell in a close 8-7 set to Brad Cummins and Brysl Libao in no. 1 doubles. The Bulldogs clinched the doubles round after Thomas Reznek and Andrew Yip defeated Avery Bicks and Charlie Stark 8-7 in no. 2 doubles.
The Sagehens started their comeback with Jed Kronenberg winning his no. 1 singles match against Lipscomb 6-1 and 6-4. Josh Gearou followed with a 6-2 and close 7-6 (2) win in no. 2 singles against Leahy. Jacob Schoenherr battled to a tough three-set loss, falling in the first set 4-6 and coming back 6-0 in the second. However, he dropped the final set 6-2. Bellet emerged victorious in his three-set thriller in no. 3 singles against Reznek. After dropping the first set 2-6, he came back 6-2 and 7-5 to put the Sagehens ahead 4-2. Quinn Hirsohn clinched the victory with a pair of 6-4 sets against Andrew Yip in no. 6 singles. Sam Gearou fell in no. 4 to Brad Cummings 4-6, 6-0, 2-6.
