Men's Tennis: Eagles Edge Out Sagehens In 5-4 Thriller

CLAREMONT, CA.- The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team lost a close battle to Mary Washington on Friday evening, falling 5-4. After an intense doubles round that could have gone either way, the Eagles held on in the singles round to earn the victory.  

In the doubles round the Sagehens saw Charlie Stark and Avery Bicks in the no. 3 doubles match against Michael Fleming and Patrick Hughes 8-6. However, after the Eagles took No. 2 doubles 8-5, it came down to the no. 1 doubles match which went down to the wire. Unfortunately, Octave Bellet de Giacomoni and Josh Gearou fell to Moss Hutchison and Matt Miles 8-7 (5).

Jed Kronenberg cruised to a 6-2 and 6-0 victory over Miles in no. 1 singles and Josh Gearou took no. 2 over Fleming with a pair of 6-2 sets. His brother Sam Gearou won the no. 4 singles battle against Hutchison in a three set thriller, dropping the first set 6-1 before battling back 7-6 (5) and 7-6 (6). Unfortunately, Bellet fell in no. 3 singles in three sets 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-5. Jansen Comadena also fell in three sets in no. 5 singles to Derek Hagino 3-6, 7-5, 6-7 (1). Quinn Hirsohn lost no. 6 singles to Cole Tecce with a pair of 7-5 sets.
