TEMPE, AZ. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) named Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis Head Coach Steve Bickham onto the ITA Board of Directors on Thursday morning, announcing 18 other members whose work will begin July 1, 2018. The 19 members, seven of whom are ITA Member Coaches, will be working together to support the ITA and advance the sport of college tennis. Coach Bickham is the only Division III head coach on the board and will be working alongside the likes of Michael Center of University of Texas and Ray Anderson of Arizona State.
"Our sport and our Association are most fortunate to have such a committed Board of Directors working enthusiastically on behalf of our coaches, programs, and student-athletes," said ITA CEO Tim Russell. "A special thank you to [Chairman] Jon Vegosen for his magnificent leadership and to our dedicated executive committee. I am confident that our Board will continue to attend to the big picture needs of the ITA conscientiously and meticulously and work intently to insure a bright future for college tennis."
Coach Bickham has served five seasons as the head coach of Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis and has taken the program to new heights. He helped the Sagehens climb to a No. 3 national ranking in 2015 and helped the program claim nine individual All-American honors. Bickham was recognized as the ITA West Region Coach of the Year in 2015. He recently took the Sagehens to the SCIAC Final and coached Jed Kronenberg to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament this past season.
"I'm excited to join this elite board for college tennis and to cooperate with such high caliber coaches," said Coach Bickham. "It's a huge privilege and responsibility to be the lone Division III representative on this board. I will work to defend the values of Division III athletics and use my breadth of experience in coaching and administration to advance college tennis."
