CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier 8-1 on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens end the regular season with a 15-8 overall record and 6-1 in SCIAC play to secure the No, 2 seed heading into the SCIAC Postseason.
The Sagehens came out and got a quick doubles win to start things off as the team of Marko Mandic and Octave Bellet De Giacomoni earned a win at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. Pomona-Pitzer went on to also earn a win at No. 2 doubles with Kalyan Chadalavada and Avery Bicks winning their match 8-4 but fell at the No. 3 doubles spot as the Sagehens took a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to sweep the singles competition as they took all six matches. Jack Bernstein started off with a win at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-1 followed by Sam Gearou who won his match at the No. 5 spot, 6-2, 6-0.
Sam Malech kept things going with a win in straight sets as he won his match at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-0 and Josh Gearou won at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1. The Sagehnes ended the day with two more wins as Jed Kronenberg won at the No. 1 singles spot 6-1, 6-4 and Jacob Schoenherr ended the day for the Sagehens with a win at No. 4 by the scores of 6-2, 6-2.
