Men's Tennis: Sagehens Begin 2017 With Trip To Walla Walla

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team is ready to get started in 2017 as they begin their regular season schedule with a trip out to Walla Walla, Washington.

The Sagehens enter 2017 ranked No. 9 overall according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and ended 2016 with a 16-9 record in their regular season.

Senior Jake Yasgoor will return for his senior season as he comes in as the top ranked singles player on the Sagehens' lineup at No. 38 overall as of November 1st. Yasgoor played at the top of the Pomona-Pitzer lineup last season and will continue to do so in 2017.

Also returning for their senior seasons are Graham Maassen and Spencer Simonides. The doubles team of Maassen and Simonides earned All-American status last season as they advanced to the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. Maassen was also a solid contributor last season in the singles lineup as he finished the year with a 16-11 overall singles record. Rounding out the senior class is Joshua Kim and Antony Bello. Both seniors saw action in the singles and doubles lineups last season and will make a big impact this season in the senior years.

Junior Kalyan Chadalavada saw the majority of action in the doubles lineup last season and earned All-American status as a doubles player during his freshman season. Junior Sam Malech was solid for the Sagehens last season in the middle of the singles lineup and will look to continue his success this season as a top singles player this year. Marko Mandic will see more time in both the singles and doubles lineups this season as the junior ended the year with impressive singles wins over No. 18 Redlands and No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to end the season.

Sophomores Sam Gearou and Josh Gearou are back after impressive freshmen years. Josh Gearou found his spot in the No. 6 singles position last season and the brothers combined for a solid doubles team in the No. 3 spot for Pomona-Pitzer a season ago.

Juniors Blake Myrin, Michael Poeschela and sophomore Parth Desai will look to add depth to the Sagehens' singles and doubles lineups. The Sagehens will also look to incoming freshmen Avery Bicks, Quinn Hirsohn and Jonathon Miller to work their way into the lineups for this season.

The Sagehens start their season in Walla Walla as they will take on Gust. Adolphus and Whitman in a double heading on Saturday, February 4th
