CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Swim and Dive program dove into 2019 with a huge meet victory over Cal Lutheran on Saturday afternoon at Haldeman Pool, 166 to 121. The Sagehens took nine first place finishes at the meet as Lukas Ming Menkhoff won two events.
Starting off with the 3-meter dive, Jem Stern took the top spot with the score of 281.15 while his teammate Benjamin Willet took second at 269.40. Later in the 1-meter, Willet took the top spot with a score of 278.05 and Stern took second at 268.75.
In the competition pool, the Sagehens won the first event, the 200 Yard Medley Relay, as Nick Borowsky, Lukas Ming Menkhoff, Greg Havton, and Conner Wells took the top spot with a combined time of 1:36.44. In second, Nikhil Kundu, Nick Lewis, Ryan Drover, and Ryan Franzese combined for a time of 1:37.06. In the long distance event, Benjamin Brewer of Cal Lutheran took the top at 9:46.31. Paddy Baylis finished in third at 10:11.79. Zachary Senator won the 200 Freestyle at 1:44.78 while his teammate Jack Swanson took second at 1:44.82.
Kundu later won the 100 Backstroke at 53.13 and Liam O'Shea followed in second at 53.74. In the 100 Breaststroke as Menkhoff took first at 57.67 while Lewis finished second at 59.55. Will Abele crossed second at the 200 Butterfly, clocking in at 1:55.25.
Over in the 200 Backstroke, Liam O'Shea won at 1:56.59 and Erik Garcia finished second at 2:00.37. Menkoff won his second event in the 200 Breaststroke at 2:11.39 while Riley Kinlaw took second at 2:18.04.
In the final event of the day, the 200 Freestyle Relay, the Sagehens B Team took first place as Teddy Koerner, Nick Borowsky, Ryan Chou, and Liam O'Shea combined for a time of 1:29.35 while the A Team finished closely in second. Lewis, Abele, Jack Swanson, and Ryan Franzese combined for a time of 1:29.58.
