Swimming and Diving: Men's 200 Freestyle Relay Team Takes Fifth

SHENANDOAH, TX —  The men's 200 freestyle relay team scored a top-five finish on day two of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.

Adrian Hui, Mark Hallman, Ryan Drover, and Samuel To earned Pomona-Pitzer's second All-American performance of the 2017 NCAA Championships. The Sagehens started off with a bang setting a new program record in the prelims of the event. The squad finished fourth in the prelims, setting the new Sagehen record at 1:21.70. Hallman, Hui, and To were three of the four swimmers for Pomona-Pitzer who set the previous record at 1:22.03 last season.

The Sagehens entered the finals against a stacked field that included six teams that set top-10 times in the event this year. Anchor swimmer Samuel To swam the second fastest split among final swimmers to secure the fifth place finish at 1:21.71. The race was incredibly close with just 64 hundredths of a second separating second and fifth place.

Emory won at 1:19.03, Johns Hopkins took second (1:21.07), UW Stevens Point placed third (1:21.25), and Williams finished in fourth (1:21.58).

On the women's side in the 200 freestyle relay, the combination of Maddie Kauahi, Angela Ling, Sarah Jin, and Erin Bigus finished with a time of 1:36.97 in the prelims. The same squad competed in the 400 medley relay finishing the prelims as consolation finals alternates with a time of 3:50.59.

Individually, Will Abele finished with a personal best of 4:02.87 in the 400 individual medley and Samuel To touched at 4:04.87 in the event. 

Ling set a personal record with her performance in the 100 butterfly. She finished the prelims with a time of 57.70. Drover finished the prelims in the 100 butterfly 17th overall with a time of 49.21 and just one spot away from the consolation finals. Mark Hallman finished with a time of 1:40.56 in the 200 freestyle.

The NCAA Championships will continue through Saturday. The NCAA will be providing live video and live results throughout the competition.
