Sagehens Stay Hot With 2-0 Win At Cal Lutheran

Claremont, Calif. - Freshman forward Peter Rentzepis scored the game-winner in the first half and sophomore midfielder Matthew Marvin (pictured) added a goal in the second half to lead the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team to a 2-0 win at Cal Lutheran on Saturday.

The win improved the Sagehens record to 5-1-1 on the year, with the only loss coming to NAIA school Cal State San Marcos, and 3-0-1 in the SCIAC. Cal Lutheran slips to 2-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference.

Rentzepis had both goals in Pomona-Pitzer's 2-1 win at La Verne on Wednesday, including the golden goal in overtime, and added another game-winner against Cal Lutheran with an unassisted tally at the 32:27 mark on a deflection off the Kingsmen goalkeeper.

Marvin helped the Sagehens breathe a little easier in the second half when he scored with 20:10 left to make the score 2-0.  Cal Lutheran took four more shots after the insurance goal, none of which were on target.

Nigel Brady had four saves to get the shutout, with help from his defense, which recorded a team save early in the contest (eighth minute) to keep the score 0-0.

The Sagehens will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Whittier for a 7 p.m. contest.
