PASADENA, CA. -- The No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Caltech 93-76 on Saturday night.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 16-1 and stay perfect at 8-0 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by senior Daniel Rosenbaum who notched 26 points and seven rebounds in the win. Sophomore Alex Preston had 15 point, junior Micah Elan tallied 13 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, senior Corbin Koch added 11 points and sophomore Pavle Rohalj came off of the bench for 10.
Pomona-Pitzer's offense was rolling against the Beavers as they shot 64% from the field and 57.1% from three. The Beavers started the game with the lead as some early three-point shooting gave Caltech a 9-4 advantage, but that would be the only lead of the night for the Beavers. The Sagehens came back and evened the score at 17-17 with 11 minutes left in the first half but then the offense kicked in as the Sagehens outscored the Beavers 25-17 for the remainder of the half to head into the locker room with a 42-34 lead. Rosenbaum put up 17 of his 26 points in the first half while Rohalj had eight points while going 4-5 from the field.
The second half was all Sagehens as Pomona-Pitzer quickly came out and extended their lead over the Beavers. The Sagehens' lead reached 20 points at 59-39 after a junior Jack Boyle three with 13:56 remaining, but the Sagehens would take their largest lead of the contest with 5:47 to go as they extended it to 28 points after a pair of made free-throws by Rosenbaum. Pomona-Pitzer was able to go on the road and extend their win streak to 12 games with the win over the beavers.
