CLAREMONT, CA. – Junior Micah Elan notched his 1,000 career point as the Sagehens defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Chapman 71-58 on Saturday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 14-1 overall and stay perfect at 6-0 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by sophomore Pavle Rohalj who had a career night with a new career-high of 20 points and registered his first double-double with 11 rebounds. Senior Daniel Rosenbaum notched 13 points and seven rebounds while Elan tallied 12 points and four assists in his 1,000-point night.
The Sagehens dominated the paint against the Panthers as Rohalj wasted no time asserting himself in the key. Pomona-Pitzer outscored the Panthers 32-20 in the paint and outrebounded Chapman 40-23.
The two teams kept it close in the first half with neither able to pull away from one another with a sizeable lead. The Sagehens found themselves tied with the Panthers at 23-23 with 5:45 left in the first half, but ended the half on a 15-5 run in the final six minutes to take a 38-28 lead heading into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer grew its lead early on in the second half and took their largest lead of the game at 16 points just four minutes into the second half. The Panthers began to chip away at the lead and got within striking distance at six points with the Sagehens up 58-52 with 6:19 left to go.
The Sagehens regrouped and fought off the Panthers attempted comeback to maintain their place atop the SCIAC conference with the 71-58 win.
