CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team defeated non-conference opponent Bethesda University 96-70 on Thursday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 7-1 overall.
Pomona-Pitzer started out on fire from beyond the arc in the first half. The Sagehens started with five-straight possessions with three pointers made to take a 15-9 lead over the Flames before the first media timeout with 15:40 left in the first half.
The Sagehens continued their impressive scoring from beyond the arc and mounted a run capped off by a Rosenbaum dunk and then Rosenbaum followed up with three-pointer on the very next possession to give the Sagehens a 32-18 lead with 7:38 left before the half.
Pomona-Pitzer ended the first half shooting 61.5% from three and 51.4% from the field to take a 49-32 lead heading into the locker room. Rosenbaum led the way with 11 points at the break and also earned his 500th career rebound in the process. The Sagehens' defense also played a key role in their large first half lead as they forced the Flames into eight turnovers and capitalized with 11 points off of those turnovers.
The second half was all Sagehens as well as Pomona-Pitzer outscored the Flames 47-38. Pomona-Pitzer blew the game open midway through the second half as they took their largest lead of the game at 29 points after a Rosenbaum jumper extended the lead to 70-41 with 13:42 left in the game.
Pomona-Pitzer was firing on all cylinders tonight as they ended the game shooting 56.5% from both the floor and beyond the arc while the defense held Bethesda to just 36.4% from the field and forced 14 turnovers as the Sagehens cruised to a big non-conference win over Bethesda.
