Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 5-1 overall.
The Sagehens were led by Elan who went for 25 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Just behind Elan was Rosenbaum who scored 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Sophomore Alex Preston ended the day with 14 points and sophomore Pavle Rohalj and junior Jack Boyle came off the bench with nine points each.
The Sagehens shot 52.2% from the floor while holding the Scots to just 36.6% for the game. Pomona-Pitzer outrebounded Alma 45-35 and controlled the paint with 48 points to Alma's 19.
The Sagehens scored the first bucket of the game and never trailed against the Scots. Pomona-Pitzer opened up the game on an 8-0 run, but the Scots battled back to cut the Sagehens' lead down to one point at 19-18 after a made three with 10:49 left until half. The Sagehens sprung a 9-0 run that separated themselves from the Scots ending with Rohalj hitting a jumper to put the Sagehens up 41-30 with 2:44 left. Pomona-Pitzer would tack on four more before half and went into the locker room with a 45-38 lead.
The Sagehens maintained their lead over the Scots midway through the second half and began to separate themselves after a Preston layup put the Sagehens up 20 at 87-67 with 2:30 left to go in the game. Pomona-Pitzer was able to stay consistent all game long with 45 points in the first half and 43 points in the second half as they cruised to the 88-76 win to close out the Lopata Classic.
