CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball team has clinched a berth into the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament as the No. 3 seed where they will travel to No. 2 seed Occidental on Friday, February 223rd at 7:00 p.m.
The Sagehens ended the regular season at 14-11 overall and 12-4 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens and Tigers split in their season series with both teams winning at home. Occidental won early in the year at home by the score of 64-60 and the Sagehens enjoyed a larger victory at the end of the regular season by the score of 61-47. The two teams will meet again on Friday for a chance to play in the SCIAC Championship.
The Sagehens are led by the duo of Daniel Rosenbaum and Micah Elan this season. Rosenbaum leads the team with 16.0 points per game and also leads the team with 7.1 rebounds per game. Elan is just behind Rosenbaum in points with 15.7 per game and also leads the Sagehens in assists with 4.1 per contest.
Similar to the Sagehens, the Tigers have relied on two big scorers all season long in Zach Baines and Austin DeWitz. Baines leads the team with 18.6 points per game while DeWitz just below him at 17.0 per game. DeWitz also pulls down a team-high 9.4 rebounds per game while Ryan Kaneshiro leads the Tigers with 4.0 assists per contest.
Pomona-Pitzer has had the Tigers number as of late as the Sagehens have gone 8-2 against the Tigers in their last 10 games.
Winner of this semifinal game will go on to face the winner of No. 1 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps versus No. 4 seed Chapman on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. with the highest remaining seed hosting.
